Men's Soccer Set for Road Match Against Nebraska Wesleyan University

WAVERLY, Iowa – Wartburg men's soccer are on the road for an American Rivers Conference match against Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Neb. on Saturday, Oct. 23 with kickoff set for 2:30 p.m.

Last Time Out
Wartburg men's soccer was edged 2-1 in double-overtime by Loras College in an A-R-C battle.
 
The first half was fast paced and both teams got good looks on goal. The Knights outshot the Duhawks six to two in the first half, but all four of their shots on goal were saved by Loras. The Duhawks got on the board in the 17th minute when Kevin Kucaba scored off a Reed Miklavic assist to make the match 1-0.
 
In the 90th minute, Payton Chapman fired a goal past the keeper from a free kick as time winded down to send the match into overtime. The goal is Chapman's third of the season for the Knights. The match ended in the second overtime period when Wartburg's defense knocked in an own goal trying to defend a shot.
 
The Duhawks finished the match with a slight advantage in both shots (10-8) and shots on goal (6-5).
 
Wartburg is outscoring opponents 34-18 during the 2021 season. The Knights are scoring 2.43 goals per game on 14.2 shots while allowing 1.29 goals per game on 10.4 shots.
 
Jack Palen has paced the Knights offensively with 30 total points off 14 goals and two assists. Caleb Halleran leads the team in assists this season with four.
 
Patrick McMahon has started eight matches for the Knights in goal and has recorded 25 saves with a 78.1% save percentage. The Knights' defense has recorded six shutout victories this season.
 
Nebraska Wesleyan
The Prairie Wolves have won one game, lost two and tied two in their last five matches. The last time out, NWU tied with Coe College 0-0 to move to 4-6-3 overall and 1-3-2 in the A-R-C.
 
NWU is led on offense by Alex Kohler, who leads the Prairie Wolves in goals with three and assists with four in 12 games played. Alex Aguilar has recorded two goals and assists to add to the Prairie Wolves' offense.
 
Zachary Weis has spent the most time in goal for NWU with 740:19 minutes played. Weis has recorded 50 saves this season with a save percentage of 74.6%.
