WAVERLY, Iowa - The Wartburg College baseball teams begins its 2021 journey this weekend, traveling to Sauget, Ill. to face No. 10-ranked Webster University Feb. 27-28.
Wartburg and Webster will play one nine-inning game each on Saturday and Sunday. Both games will start at noon at GCS Credit Union Ballpark.
SEASON OUTLOOK
Last season, Wartburg got off to a great start prior to the season coming to a halt due to COVID-19. The Knights went 9-1 overall and were riding a six-game winning streak coming off their Florida spring trip when the remainder of the season was canceled.
During the shortened season,
JoJo McNair compiled a .455 batting average and
Parker Ridge tallied 13 runs batted in.
On the mound,
Dylan Gotto collected 33 strikeouts in 21 inning pitched, including a school record 16 strikeouts in seven innings versus Bethel University on Feb. 23. He was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week.
KNIGHTS TIED FOR THIRD IN PRESEASON POLL
The American Rivers Conference released the 2021 Baseball Preseason Coaches' Poll on Wednesday, Feb. 24, with Wartburg totaling 46 points to finish tied for third in the league standings, as voted on by A-R-C coaches.
Coe College was selected to finish first, totaling 62 points with six first place votes.
