Baseball Set to Open Season in Florida

WAVERLY, Iowa – Wartburg baseball is set to get the 2022 season under way at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with eight games from Sunday, Feb. 27 to Saturday, Mar. 5 across multiple locations in Central Florida.
 
Schedule (Central Time)
Feb. 27: 12:30 p.m.  Double Header vs. Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE)
 
Feb. 28: 12:00 p.m. vs. Waynesburg University
 
Mar. 1: 10:00 a.m. vs Saint Vincent College
 
Mar. 3: 11:30 a.m. vs MSOE
 
Mar. 4: 3:30 p.m. Double Header vs Gordon College
 
Mar. 5: 8:00 a.m. vs Waynesburg
 
MSOE
The Raiders went 18-16 last season but finished 13-7 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) North play. Its season was ended after falling to Concordia Wisconsin in the divisional championship game.
 
MSOE returns the NACC North pitcher of the year Tyler Gronert to the mound this season along with All-NACC North third baseman Micah Overley and outfielder/infielder Brandon Beauchamp.
 
MSOE and Wartburg met last during the 2020 RussMatt Invitational, where the Knights split a double header against the Raiders.
 
Waynesburg
In its last season of competition, Waynesburg finished the season 12-20 overall and 9-19 in conference play.

The Yellowjackets have three sophomores returning that were labeled players to watch by the Presidents' Athletic Conference in infielder Mike Bell, infielder Nolan Vertullo, and pitcher Ryan Sullivan.
 
This will mark the first matchup between these schools in school history.
 
Saint Vincent
In 2021, Saint Vincent baseball finished the season with an overall record of 17-18 and a 13-12 mark in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. The Bearcats are tabbed to finish third in their conference preseason poll.
 
Saint Vincent is set to return three senior pitchers named to the PAC players to watch list in Justin Wright, Casey Jones, and Zach Barberich.
 
This will mark the first matchup between these schools in school history.
 
Gordon
Gordon is projected to finish in a tie for eighth in the Commonwealth Coast Conference this season after finishing 2021 with a record of 7-15 overall and a 6-10 ledger in the CCC.
 
The double header against Wartburg will be the first action for Gordon this season and will mark the first matchup in school history.
