Knights Sweep Gordon College in Doubleheader

DAVENPORT, Fla. – Wartburg baseball swept Gordon College in a doubleheader for its fourth and fifth straight win at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Knights are now 5-2 overall this season and have won five straight. 
 
Game Summaries
Game 1 Wartburg 15, Gordon 2
The Orange & Black jumped on Gordon early with four runs in the bottom of the first. Eliot Jurgensen and Max Goodhue both scored from errors and then Ben DeKruyf hit a sacrifice fly that scored Zach Wesolowski. Keaton Gray wrapped up the scoring in the first with an RBI single.
 
Zach Walton kept the offensive attack going in the second inning with a two RBI double to left that scored Wesolowski and Goodhue. After holding Gordon to another scoreless inning, the Knights scored two more runs to make the score 8-0. Wesolowski doubled to left centerfield to close the third inning.
 
The Fighting Scots got on the board in the top of the fifth after an RBI single made the score 8-1. Wartburg answered with another Wesolowski double that brought in two more runs. Later that inning, Walton reached base on an error from centerfield and brought in two more runs to make the score 12-1.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, the Orange & Black scored three more runs to push the score to 15-1. Gordon scored in the top of the seventh after a groundout brought in a run, but the Knights closed out the inning to hold on for a 15-2 win.
 
Dylan Gotto earned the win on the mound after starting and recording five innings pitched. The senior had nine strikeouts and only allowed four hits in the outing. Both Dekruyf and Malcolm Newell pitched one inning each to close the game and both recorded two strikeouts in their respective innings.
 
Both Walton and Wesolowski tallied four RBIs in the win and drew three walks between them. Jurgensen finished the game 2/2 with two runs scored and two walks drawn.
 
Game 2 Wartburg 7, Gordon 2
In game two the Fighting Scots got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after an RBI single. The score remained 1-0 until the top of the fourth when the Knights put five runs up. Cael Boehmer, Bryce Butler, DeKruyf, and Gray all recorded an RBI in the inning to help the Knights push past Gordon.

The Fighting Scots singled to left and brought in a run in the bottom of the fifth to bring the score to 5-2, but it wasn't enough to mount a comeback. The Knights scored a run from an error in both the sixth and seventh inning to close the 7-2 win.
 
Darren Kilpatrick earned his first win of the season on the mound after a five-inning outing. Kilpatrick faced 27 batters and recorded 9 strikeouts in the win. Aaron Eybers pitched the last two innings and recorded two strikeouts and allowed just two hits.
 
Goodhue led the Knights with two RBI from just one hit in the contest. Caleb Andrews was 2/3 with one walk drawn and two runs scored.

The Orange & Black close play in Florida tomorrow at 8 a.m. against Waynesburg University.
