Baseball Set for Road Series Against Loras

WAVERLY, Iowa – Baseball is on the road this weekend for its three-game series against Loras College set to begin on Sunday, May 1. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 30 but has been moved to Sunday, May 1 due to weather. The single game scheduled for Friday, Apr. 29 has been moved to Monday, May 2.

Last Time Out
The Knights split their doubleheader against Simpson on Sunday, Apr. 24, winning game one 10-4 and losing game two 6-5.
 
Despite giving up two runs in the ninth of game one, the Orange & Black secured a 10-4 win.
 
Bryce Butler, Max Goodhue and Zach Wesolowski all hit two RBI to lead Wartburg at the plate. Goodhue finished the contest 3/6 and he scored two runs along with his two RBI.
 
Daren Kilpatrick went four innings in his start in the first game and allowed just four hits. Will Armstrong earned the win in his two innings of relief where he allowed no runs and one hit. He is now 3-0 in decisions on the mound. Joey Ciero pitched the final three innings and struck out six batters while closing the win.
 
In the top of the eighth of game two, Simpson scored four runs to take the lead for the first time in the contest. The runs came from three separate singles. The Knights had no answer in the bottom half of the eighth or ninth inning, and the final was 6-5 Simpson.
 
The Orange & Black finished the contest with four players tied for a team-high one RBI. Keaton Gray and Zach Walton were the only Knights with multi-hit games as they were 2/5 and 2/4 respectively. Goodhue had the only extra-base hit for Wartburg in game two with his triple in the seventh inning. The triple is his fifth of the season, which currently leads the A-R-C.
 
Four pitchers saw action on the mound in game two for the Knights. Dreyton LaVeine started and pitched the most innings with four. Cael Boehmer earned a loss in the game with one inning pitched to move his record to 1-1. Aaron Eybers closed the final two innings on the mound and allowed no runs and three hits.
 
Season Leaders
Walton leads the American Rivers Conference in RBI (49), OPS (1.378) and walks drawn (29). The sophomore's batting average of .418 is third best in the conference and he ranks second in homeruns with 10. Walton currently has a reached base streak of 20 straight games and a hitting streak of six.
 
Goodhue is the conference leader in triples with five so far this season. The senior leads the Knights in hits with 51 and is batting .383. He has batted in 27 runs and is tied with Walton for a team leading 12 doubles. Eliot Jurgensen and Wesolowski aren't far behind as both have double-digit doubles.
 
Dylan Gotto has the most innings pitched in the conference this season and has the most wins on the mound with six. The lefthander ranks second in ERA with a mark of 2.29, which trails the leader Brady Held who is at 2.28, and in strike outs at 72. He is also tied for second in the A-R-C in walks allowed with eight on the season.
 
LaVeine, Armstrong and Kilpatrick all have three wins on the mound this season. Eybers leads the team with three saves this season through 15 appearances so far this season.
 
Loras
The Duhawks enter the weekend winners of three of their last five games and are 26-8 overall with a conference mark of 10-8. Loras is currently third in the conference standings behind Buena Vista and Wartburg.

Loras' Daniel Rogers is the conference leader in batting average with a mark of .431 and has 41 RBI for the Duhawks which is tied for second in the A-R-C. He also leads the conference in hits with 53 this season.
 
Luke Fennelly has 18 stolen bases for Loras, which puts him at third out of the A-R-C leaders.
 
The offensive attack from Loras is balanced as they have nine different batters with 19+ RBI.
 
Ryan Wohlers leads all Duhawk pitchers with 44 innings pitched and 50 strikeouts. The senior has a record of 5-2 through nine starts this season.
 
Ethan Peters is the conference leader in saves with 11 so far this season through 18 appearances. The senior reliever has 46 strikeouts with an ERA of 1.95 through 32.1 innings pitched.
