CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa—Honors continue to roll in for the Wartburg Knights Softball squad as five Knights earn All-Conference honors from the American Rivers Conference.
Sydney Illg and
Olivia Brecht earn First-Team All-Conference Honors, while
Ella Link (Second Team),
Kaylie Springer (Second Team), and
Tarah Wehde (Honorable Mention) earn honors.
Illg, a 2019 and 2021 First-Team All-Conference honoree, had a .404 batting average against conference opponents and sat in fourth in the conference rankings for slugging percentage .750. The senior shortstop from Grimes, Iowa, scored 18 runs in conference play.
Brecht, the senior from Cedar Rapids, was a 2021 Second Team All-Conference honoree. Brecht recorded a .400 average, 15 RBIs, six doubles, and 20 hits in league play. Brecht was second in the league for doubles.
Link, the sophomore from Dyersville, led the league in RBIs (26), home runs (7), total bases (42), and slugging percentage at .875 to earn her first Second Team All-Conference honors.
Springer, a sophomore outfielder from Dubuque, picks up her first Second Team All-Conference honors. Springer had a .344 average in league play, recorded 11 stolen bases (league leader), and recorded the most at bats in the league (64).
Wehde, a 2021 Second Team All-Conference honoree, earns honorable mention honors after recording a .400 average in league play. Wehde recorded 11 runs for the Knights, five RBIs, and had a slugging percentage at .800.
The Knights earned the American Rivers Conference automatic berth into the NCAA Division III tournament after defeating Nebraska Wesleyan in the tournament championship, 5-4. The Knights open NCAA action on May 13, as they compete at Illinois Wesleyan in St. Joseph, Minnesota.
