Trio of Knights Earn NFCA All-Region Honors

LOUISVILLE, KY—Three members of the Wartburg College Knights Softball squad were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on Monday, May 16.

The NFCA revealed its 2022 All-Region NFCA Division III teams. This year 384 student-athletes from 197 programs were recognized across ten squads.

Ella Link, Olivia Brecht, and Ashley Nelson join the All-Region IX team.

Link, the sophomore DP/UTL from Dyersville, was named to the First-Team All-Region. Link leads the team in home runs (12), RBIs (50), OPS (1.244), and slugging percentage (.777). Link earned Second-Team All-Conference honors and was named to the All-Tournament Team at the St. Joseph Regional.

Brecht, the senior second baseman from Cedar Rapids, was named to the Second-Team All-Region. Brecht leads the team in doubles this season (9), and in in the top-10 of three statistical categories for the Knights. Brecht has a .310 average this season with 35 runs scored. Brecht earned First-Team All-Conference honors this season.

Sophomore pitcher Nelson (Dekalb, Illinois) earned Third-Team All-Region honors. Nelson broke the school record for most innings pitched in the Knights win over Nebraska Wesleyan. Nelson has a 2.72 ERA with 25 appearances in the pitchers' circle for the Knights.

The trio of Knights join 12 additional American Rivers Conference Softball players in earning recognition.

All honorees move forward to be considered for selection for the three NFCA Division III All-America squads, which will be announced on May 24.
