CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Dylan Gotto,
Max Goodhue,
Zach Walton and
Caleb Andrews were named to All-Conference teams by the American Rivers Conference on Wednesday, May 18. Gotto and Goodhue collected first team honors and Walton and Andrews earned second team recognition.
The two seniors and two sophomores led the Knights to an overall record of 25-21 and finished the season as the A-R-C Tournament runner-up.
This is Gotto's second career All-Conference team nod and the first time being named to the first team. The senior ace broke Wartburg's all time strike out record after punching out 96 batters this season to put his career total at 278. His 96 strike outs this season led the A-R-C and ranks second for most strike outs in a Wartburg season behind
Ryan Doty's 104 in 2012. The Peosta, Iowa native finished the season 7-3 in decisions, and he led the conference in innings pitched with 84 innings through 12 starts. Gotto's seven wins are tied for the most in the A-R-C and he leads all pitchers in walks allowed with 11. His ERA of 2.89 was tied for fourth in the the conference and he pitched two complete games this season.
Goodhue's first team honor marks back-to-back years for the senior outfielder. Goodhue had a great season at the plate batting .413 and leading the conference in hits with 76, which was ten more than second place. The Carlisle, Iowa native tied the school record for triples in a season with eight and his 76 hits are tied for fourth most in a season at Wartburg. Goodhue started 43 games this season and hit 14 doubles, eight triples, five home runs and 40 RBI to help pace the Knights offensively. His eight triples led the A-R-C and his OPS of 1.107 ranked sixth in the conference. On the defensive side, the senior totaled 60 putouts and had a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000% this season.
After receiving an honorable mention nod a year ago, Walton was named to the second team by the A-R-C after a career season at the plate. The sophomore led the conference in OPS (1.312), RBI (58), walks drawn (39), runs scored (49) and tied for the lead in home runs (13). Walton's 39 walks drawn set a new Wartburg season record and his 13 home runs tied the Wartburg season record. The first basemen started all 46 games this season and recorded a batting average of .396. The Farmington, Minn. native's 58 RBI and his on base percentage of .547 both rank top-five all-time in a Wartburg season. Defensively, Walton led the team with 403 putouts and finished the season with a fielding percentage of .993%.
Andrews has been named second team All-Conference this season for his first career conference honor. The Center Point, Iowa native played in all 46 games and started 45 of them. The infielder had career highs in every hitting statistic including a batting average of .352, team-fourth 58 hits, three home runs and 16 RBI. Andrews stole eight bases on 12 attempts and finished with an OPS of .883. The sophomore played most of his season at second base and recorded 79 putouts along with 115 assists in the infield. His 115 assists led all A-R-C infielders this season and he helped turn 24 double plays, which ranks fourth in the conference.
