Knights Fall to Coe 4-3 in 11 Innings

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Baseball fell to Coe in a 11 inning battle 4-3 on Thursday, May 11 in the American Rivers Conference Tournament elimination game. The Knights close the season at 14-21 overall.
 
Game Summary
  • After a scoreless first inning from both offenses, Eliot Jurgensen put the Knights on the board in the top of the second with a solo shot homer to left field
    • Max Hansen closed the bottom of the second with a strikeout for the Knights' second 1-2-3- inning, Wartburg led 1-0 after two innings
  • The Knights got another run in the third inning when Caleb Andrews hit an RBI single that made the score 2-0
    • Wartburg closed the third inning with a 6-4-3 double play
  • Coe scored on an RBI double, but was thrown out in trying to stretch it to a triple in the fourth
    • Will Armstrong made a diving stop and play to end the inning, Wartburg led 2-1 after four innings
  • Neither team brought a run across the next four innings an the score remained 2-1 heading to the eighth
    • Ciero has allowed just three hits and recorded six strikeouts in three innings pitched in relief
  • Coe tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth with a sacrifice fly
  • Both Noah Day and Will Armstrong singled in the top of the ninth with two outs, but were unable to score and it remained tied 2-2 heading to the bottom of the ninth
    • Dreyton LaVeine came in and closed the bottom of the ninth on the mound to send the game to extras
  • Wartburg had a runner in scoring position in the 10th but was unable to bring any across headed to the bottom of the 10th
    • The Kohawks put the winning run on base with a one out single, but the Knights defense got the last two outs to send it to the 11th
  • After a Carter Stubitz single to leadoff the 11th, Keaton Gray found the right center gap for an RBI double to go ahead 3-2 after the top of the 11th
    • With one out, Coe hit a ground-rule double and then a single to put two runners in scoring position
    • Coe doubled to walk it off 4-3
