Knights Fall to Loras in Opening Game of A-R-C Tournament

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Baseball fell to Loras 15-5 in eight innings in the opening game of the American Rivers Conference Tournament on Thursday, May 11. The Knights will now face Coe College at 3 p.m. in an elimination game at Mount Mercy University.
 
Game Summary
  • The Knights started the first inning with singles from Keaton Gray and Zach Walton, but Loras got out of the inning with no runs allowed
    • Loras hit a leadoff double to begin the bottom half of the first that was brought home after a flyout and groundout to make the score 1-0 after one inning
  • Cole Wessling and Will Armstrong started a two-out rally for the Knights in the second inning with back-to-back singles and then Gray recorded an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1
    • Cael Boehmer struck out the side in the bottom of the second for his fourth straight strikeout
  • After a leadoff double by Walton, Eliot Jurgensen hit a two-out triple to score Walton and give the Knights a 2-1 lead
    • Boehmer struck out his fifth straight better in route to a 1-2-3 bottom of the third
  • Loras scored on two bases loaded walks in the fourth to make it 3-2 and then a squeeze play scored one and caused a throwing error that brought two more runs in to make it 6-2
    • A two-out double bought in another run to make the score 7-2 Loras after four innings
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Loras put together another bases loaded rally that score two runs to make it 9-2
  • Walton continued his great day at the plate with an RBI double that scored Caleb Andrews, who doubled as well
    • Knights cut the lead to 9-4 after a Sam Nicolino RBI single scored Walton
  • Loras got one run back in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 10-4
  • Walton recorded another RBI on his fifth hit of the game to cut the lead to 10-5 after the top of the eighth
    • Loras put three more runs across the board in the eighth to go back up 13-5
