The Wartburg College baseball team (3-1 overall) heads to Florida this week to compete in the RussMatt Invitational, scheduled for Monday, March 2 through Saturday, March 7.
Wartburg opens the week with two games on Monday, taking on Concordia University Chicago at 10 a.m. and Saint Mary's University at 1:30 p.m. The Knights then face John Carroll University on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m., followed by matchups with Concordia College on Thursday at 6:45 p.m. and College of St. Scholastica on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
The trip wraps up Saturday with a twin bill against Calvin University, beginning at 2:45 p.m.

- Six Knights have started all four contests this season: Liam Bender, Andrew Gallegos, Charlie Krueger, Andrew Robinson, Jayden Scott, and Griffin Troha.
- Scott has recorded two triples on the year, ranking fourth nationally in Division III. As a team, Wartburg is 14th in the nation with four triples through four games.
- Keegan Schmitt paces the offense with a .545 batting average, collecting six hits, including two doubles. Gallegos is tied for the team lead with six hits, adding a double and a triple. Troha leads the Knights with five RBIs across 16 at-bats and is batting .313 on the season.
- Overall, Wartburg has produced 34 hits, nine extra-base hits (five doubles, four triples), 19 RBIs, 16 walks, and has been hit by 13 pitches, posting a .281 team batting average.
- On the mound, Cael Funk, Nicholas Nin, and Kam Volz each own 1–0 records. Emerson Alberhsky leads the staff with six strikeouts in four innings of work. Funk has logged 5.2 innings with a 1.59 ERA, surrendering just four hits. The pitching staff has totaled 24 strikeouts over 31.1 innings this season.
- Wartburg has controlled early and late innings, outscoring opponents 5-1 in the first, 7-1 in the second, and 4-0 in the eighth.

2026 SEASON PREVIEW
The Wartburg College baseball team has been selected to finish third in the 2026 American Rivers Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league announced today.
The Knights earned 41 points, marking their highest preseason ranking since tying for third prior to the 2021 season. Wartburg finished fourth in last year's conference tournament.
Head coachÂ
Casey Klunder, entering his third season at the helm, has compiled a 47-40 overall record and has taken the Knights to the conference tournament in each of his two seasons. During the 2025 season, Klunder guided the team to four All-Conference honorees and saw four players recognized as College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District. Over his three seasons, Klunder has coached eight All-Conference players, two All-Region selections, and one All-American.
The Knights return a blend of experience with 15 freshmen, 18 sophomores, 10 juniors, eight seniors, and one fifth-year player. Wartburg ranked among the program's best in several statistical categories last season, including second in hit-by-pitches (62), fifth in home runs (38), seventh in strikeouts (304), and tied for eighth in runners picked off (6).
