OSKALOOSA, Iowa – The Wartburg College baseball team (9-3 overall) completed a doubleheader sweep of the St. Olaf College Oles on Saturday at Oskaloosa High School.
The Knights took game one by a score of 5-4, as
Andrew Gallegos and
Drew Conrad notched back-to-back jacks in the eighth to set up a walk-off RBI bunt by
Cole Grider in the bottom of the ninth.
Wartburg completed the sweep with
Kam Volz earning the win in relief, retiring the last 15 Oles' to seal a 7-3 victory.
The Knights have won their sixth-straight contest and will open up American Rivers Conference play next weekend at Coe.

GAME ONE – WARTBURG 5, ST. OLAF 4
Both teams put up a run on the board in the first inning, as
Bode Nagelmaker scored
Andrew Gallegos on a sacrifice fly in the bottom half.
St. Olaf gained a 3-1 lead after plating a pair of runs in the third.
Scoreless frames up until the sixth, as the Knights pulled within one after an RBI-double by
Andrew Robinson brought in
Drew Conrad.
Starter
Emerson Alberhasky was replaced by
Owen Greco to begin the seventh. Alberhasky gave up just three runs through six complete innings. The Oles scratched a run off of Greco to retake a two-run lead at 4-2.
In the eighth, Wartburg equalized the game up at four when Gallegos and Conrad tallied back-to-back solo home runs.
Greco was relieved for
Cael Funk with two outs and a runner on second. Funk finished off the inning with a looking strikeout to send it to the bottom of the ninth.
The Knights played a bit of small ball in the final frame, as
Cole Grider stepped up to the plate and
Aiden Tobin was in the game as a pinch runner. Grider got down a bunt that forced an overthrow to score Tobin to walk it off and take game one, 5-4.

GAME TWO – WARTBURG 7, ST. OLAF 3
Hot bats from the Knights never slowed to open up game two of the day. Gallegos logged his second round-tripper of the day, this time a one-out, three-run shot to give Wartburg a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
St. Olaf provided a quick response in the second, scoring one run. Wartburg answered the call with two runs, thanks to
Griffin Troha's RBI single, followed by Gallegos' single that brought home
Keegan Schmitt. After two completes, the Knights held a 5-1 lead.
Following another RBI-single by Nagelmaker in the fourth, starter Nick Nin exited in the top half of the fifth, as
Kam Volz took the mound with the Knights hanging on to a 6-3 lead.
Volz provided a stellar outing in relief, first retiring the next three Oles' in order in the fifth with a little help on the offensive end as the Knights tacked on another run in the sixth to lead 7-3.
Volz earned the win in relief, as he retired the last 15 Oles' to seal a 7-3 win in game two.

UP NEXT
As Wartburg's series finale against St. Olaf has been cancelled, as well as UW-Platteville (originally scheduled for Monday), the Knights will return to the diamond next Friday, March 20 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to take on (RV) Coe College at 3 p.m.
