CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Junior infielder
Andrew Gallegos has been named the American Rivers Conference Male Athlete of the Week and Position Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Gallegos (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central HS) helped lead the Wartburg College baseball team (9-3 overall) to a Saturday doubleheader sweep of St. Olaf College, batting 5-for-9 (.556) with two home runs, a double, six RBI and three runs scored.
In game one, Gallegos finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored, highlighted by a solo home run. He followed with a 3-for-5 performance in game two, driving in five runs with a three-run homer in the first inning, an RBI single in the second and an RBI double in the fourth.
On the season, Gallegos leads the Knights with three of the team's five home runs while batting .354 with a team-high 17 hits and 13 RBI. The junior has recorded five multi-hit games through 12 contests and has reached base safely in eight consecutive games, including a current four-game hitting streak.
Gallegos earns Wartburg's first Male Athlete of the Week honor from the American Rivers Conference since May 14, 2017, and the program's first position-player weekly recognition since March 11, 2024.
Wartburg carries a six-game winning streak into conference play this weekend at Coe College. The three-game series begins Friday, March 20, with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
