The Wartburg College baseball team (19-14 overall, 10-11 A-R-C) will close out its regular season with a three-game series against the University of Dubuque (12-23 overall, 7-14 A-R-C) beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, May 1 at 1 p.m. The Knights and Spartans will take Saturday off and play their series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Entering the final weekend, the Knights are in position to secure a berth in the 2026 American Rivers Conference Baseball Championships, needing just one win over the Spartans to lock in their sixth consecutive tournament appearance.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Dubuque
All-time series: Wartburg leads 62-27 with an away record of 23-12. The Knights have won six out of the last 10 matchups (W1).
Last matchup: Last season, Wartburg took two of three from Dubuque, claiming the first game 4-3 before dropping game two 8-3. The Knights bounced back with a 12-9 win in game three.
 
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
The Spartans go into the weekend series with a 7-14 record in the league in seventh place. Dubuque has dropped five straight conference series, with their last series win coming against current A-R-C regular season champion, Luther, back on March 27-28.

The Spartans lead the conference in triples (12) and sacrifice bunts (39) and post the league's second-best fielding percentage (.959). As a team, Dubuque swings it at .298 led by Will Sullivan's .357 average.

  • With one win during the Dubuque series, Wartburg will clinch a spot into its 31st A-R-C tournament – leads the league in appearances. The Knights are tied with Central (15-20 overall, 10-11), however, the Dutch hold the regular season tiebreaker.
  • The Knights are 2-6 on the road this season with wins coming at Coe (March 21) and Simpson (April 10).
  • Wartburg last traveled to Dubuque in 2024, claiming the two of three contests – dropped the series finale in seven innings.
  • Andrew Gallegos leads the Knights hitting .322/.593 with 70 total bases, 28 RBIs, 10 doubles and eight homeruns.
  • Gallegos' slugging percentage (.593) ranks No. 7 in the conference, as his homerun total (8) stands at No. 6.
  • Griffin Troha has crossed the plate 32 times this season, as he's drawn a team-best 26 walks through 134 at-bats. Troha is hitting .276/.433 with 37 hits (five doubles, two triples and four homeruns) with 23 RBI – Troha has started all 33 games for the Knights this season.
  • Jayden Scott sits just behind Gallegos at .320/.451 at the plate with a team-leading 39 hits on six doubles, two triples and two homeruns. Scott has driven in 23 RBI while him and Troha have each made every start.
  • Andrew Robinson ranks No. 8 in Division III with 24 hit-by-pitches this season, needing one more to secure the single-season program record of 25. Reaching base via hit-by-pitch isn't the only way Robinson makes an impact, as he tallies a .262/.359 average from the dish with a team-high 10 doubles. Last weekend against Loras, the senior hit .545 with six hits including a 5-for-5 performance in a 12-5 game two win.
  • Tanner Jackson did the unthinkable last weekend, smacking a pair of grand slams in the first two games over Loras, totaling 10 RBI, as Charlie Krueger led the Knights with a seven-hit effort (.583), while driving in a total of nine RBI.
  • Emerson Alberhasky (3-3) sparked a complete game shutout while falling one strikeout shy of tying his career-high count with 12 – allowed just three hits in seven innings. Alberhasky has sat down a total of 86 opposing bats to rank No. 5 in the country in that category – leads conference. The sophomore posts a 3.14 ERA through 10 starts with limiting the opposition to a 2.17 average in 57.1 innings of work.
  • Nicholas Nin (4-2) has earned a team-best four wins through 53.1 innings pitched and posts a 3.89 ERA. Nin has struck out 43 including a seven-strikeout performance in game three against Loras. Nin has thrown one complete game (April 16 vs Buena Vista).
  • As a team, Wartburg has crushed 29 homeruns that ranks No. 4 in the league and ranks No. 5 in runs scored with 211 on the season.
  • Overall, the Knights have been hit by a pitch a total of 74 times this season to eye in on the single season record mark of 79 set in 2024.

Head coach Casey Klunder has piled up 94 wins in his career with 63 of those just at Wartburg and 31 at Central (2021-23). Klunder joined the Knights' staff in 2023 and has posted a 63-53 record at Wartburg for a 94-100 career record.
