CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced its weekly award winners Monday, as sophomore
Emerson Alberhasky earned Male Athlete of the Week honors while senior
Keegan Schmitt was selected as the league's Position Player of the Week.
Alberhasky (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny Centennial) broke Wartburg's single-season strikeout record during the conference tournament, recording his 106th strikeout of the year to surpass Ryan Doty's previous mark of 105 set in 2012. The sophomore played a key role in guiding the Knights to their 11th A-R-C Tournament championship in program history, tossing 7.1 innings in the title game while allowing just five hits and two runs with seven strikeouts. Over Wartburg's tournament run, Alberhasky logged 13.2 innings and threw 234 pitches across two appearances.
Schmitt (Independence, Iowa/Independence/Mount Mercy University) paced the Knights offensively throughout the tournament, batting .500 (12-for-24) with five doubles, six RBI and six runs scored.
Wartburg earned its 15th trip to NCAA Division III Tournament and first since the 2017 season. The Knights (26-15 overall) will square up with Baldwin Wallace University (31-10 overall) at 11 a.m., on Friday, May 15 in the opening round of the Decatur Regional, hosted by Millikin University.
