Wartburg Opens NCAA Tournament Against Baldwin Wallace in Decatur Regional

The Wartburg College baseball team will open NCAA Division III Tournament play for the first time since 2017, competing at Workman Family Baseball Field from May 15–17 in Decatur, Ill.

The Knights face Baldwin Wallace University in the opening round at 11 a.m. on Friday, followed by Millikin University and the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse at 2:30 p.m.

Wartburg, Baldwin Wallace, and Millikin each earned automatic bids by winning their respective conference tournaments, while UW–La Crosse received an at-large selection.

A total of 64 teams were selected for the 2026 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship, with 16 regional sites hosting four-team pods.

The 16 teams advancing from regionals will compete in a two-team, best-of-three tournament at eight super regional sites on Friday-Saturday, May 22-23. The eight super regional winners will then qualify for the pool play double-elimination championship at Classic Auto Group Park in Eastlake, Ohio, Friday-Thursday, May 28-June 4, 2026.

The final two teams will compete in a best-of-three series to determine the national champion.

Forty-one conference champions qualified automatically while there were 23 at-large bids.

Wartburg and Baldwin Wallace will meet for the first time in program history on Friday. If the Knights face Millikin, it would also mark the first-ever matchup between the two programs. Wartburg's only previous meeting with UW-La Crosse came on May 20, 1958, a 13-12 Knights victory over the Eagles.
 
NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Wartburg College has earned its 15th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history and first since 2017, entering postseason play with an overall record of 22-28. The Knights' best NCAA finish came in 2005, when they placed fourth nationally.

In their most recent appearance in 2017, Wartburg opened with a 3-0 win over Webster before falling to North Central, 8-3. The Knights then battled through elimination play with a 1-0, 12-inning walk-off victory over Washington University in St. Louis. Their run concluded against top-seeded Birmingham-Southern in a 6-1 defeat.
