Wartburg picks up sixth win

PELLA – Sparked by a remarkable first half shooting roll from sophomore forward Maddie Sadecky (Iowa City), Wartburg College gained an 84-63 Iowa Conference win over Central Dec. 4.

Sadecky’s seven-of-seven performance from outside the three-point arc in the opening 20 minutes lifted Coach Bob Amsberry’s team to a 49-28 halftime lead. The Orange and Black (6-0 overall, 2-0 IIAC) opened their advantage to as much as 28 in the second half.

Senior guard Samantha Harrington (Nashua) followed Sadecky on the Knights’ scoring chart with 18 points. She also had a team-best five assists, while Sadecky was atop two categories as well thanks to two blocked shots. Sophomore guard Abi Weidemann (Iowa Falls) and freshman guard Carly Jacobs were next in line, scoring-wise, with eight points each. Weidemann posted a team-high three steals.

Wartburg continues conference play with a 6 p.m. tipoff at Buena Vista University’s Siebens Fieldhouse Wednesday, Dec. 8.

Notes – Harrington joined the program’s 1,000-point scorers’ club in the second half. Her 1,008 points rank 12th. … Sadecky’s first-half shooting binge helped become part of a five-person tie for Wartburg’s single-game three-point record. … The 6-0 overall mark continues the best start for the program since the 1992-93 team opened 7-0.
