Strong Second Half Propels Knights Past Norse, 77-72

DECORAH, Iowa—Behind a 51- point second half effort, the Wartburg women’s basketball team (5-1 overall 1-0 IIAC) defeated Iowa Conference opponent, Luther, 77-72 Wednesday in the IIAC season opener.

Senior Leslie Wilson (Austin, Minn.) recorded a double-double as she was the team’s leading scorer with 18 points and ten rebounds.

Classmate Stephanie Reiter (Buckingham) and junior Abi Weidemann (Iowa Falls) followed closely behind Wilson with 16 points each.

The Norse took the 32-26 lead at halftime and were ahead by as many as eight with 15:28 to go.

The score was tied five times over the rest of the game, including with 2:14 remaining.

The Knights compiled an 8-0 run over the next 1:45 to take the lead at 77-69.

Luther’s Taylor Johnson made a three-pointer with seven seconds left, but it was too little too late for the Norse as Wartburg would take the win.

The Orange and Black return to the court Saturday in their home opener against Simpson at 2 p.m
