WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg women's basketball team (8-4 overall, 1-0 IIAC) won its Iowa Conference opener, 78-71, over Dubuque (10-2, 0-1) Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Kailey Kladivo (Traer) had a team-high 21 points while classmate Brooke Stahlberg (Monticello) and senior Cathy Reiter (Buckingham) joined her in double digits with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Reiter was the team's leading rebounder with eight on the game.
Kladivo had 10 points at halftime as the Knights were ahead 38-37.
The score was knotted 40 all with 17:13 remaining, but the Orange and Black opened a 7-0 run over the next three and a half minutes to regain the lead for good.
Wartburg held the team advantages in field goal percentage (.490 vs .404) and three-point field goal percentage (.412 vs .250)
The Knights return to action Wednesday when they host Central at 6 p.m.
