WAVERLY, Iowa-- Wartburg defeated Luther, 71-69, Saturday as junior Alyssa Sager (Albert Lea, Minn.) had a career-high 22 points.
The Norse held the slim one point lead at halftime, 44-43, but the Knights compiled a 16-4 run over the first seven minutes of the second half to take the 59-48 lead.
Luther sliced the margin to one at 61-60 and took the 65-61 lead with 4:26 remaining. The Orange and Black answered with a 5-0 run over the next minute to rgain the lead at 66-65 with 3:42 left.
The score was tied two more times, including at 69 all with 0:59 to play as Sager knotted the score with her two successful free throws.
Junior Holly Halstead (Hudson) had the game-winning shot with 0:20 left as the Norse were unable to make its last three shot attempts as time expired.
Sophomore Kailey Kladivo (Traer) joined Sager as a leading scorer with 14 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the year.
Wartburg returns to the court next Wednesday when it takes to the road for its two final regular-season games. The Knights will first face Coe at 6 p.m.
