NEW HAMPTON, Iowa-- New Hampton High School's Athletic Hall of Fame welcomed four new members on Sept. 25 as part of the school's homecoming celebration. Wartburg alum, Chris Winter '04, assistant head coach and defensive coordinator with the Wartburg football program, was one of the inductees.
His induction bio:
A member of the New Hampton High School class of 2000, Winter stared in three sports and was a captain on the Class 3A state football championship team in 1999. He was a two-time All-district player and named to both the All-state and Academic All-state football teams as a senior. Winter was also a two-time All-conference and All-state baseball player and also earned All-conference honors in basketball as a senior.
Following high school, Winter starred in both football and baseball at Wartburg College. He played on three Iowa Conference title teams in football and four Iowa Conference championship teams in baseball and earned All-conference honors in both sports.
He currently is the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for Wartburg, where he coaches several former Chickasaws. He and his wife, Tara, have a daughter, Emmry, and a son, Maddox.
Each year the Chickasaw Athletic Booster Club coordinates the Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony for the New Hampton Community School District. Â
The Hall of Fame was initiated in 1995 and, with the addition of the Class of 2015, will have 103 members. Individuals may be inducted for their success as an athlete, coach or in the area of service as a patron of the New Hampton athletic programs.
