WAVERLY, Iowa-- Junior Megan Howe (Monona) recorded a hat trick and added two assists in the narrow 11-9 loss to Aurora Friday.
Her assist total marked a new career-best and senior Niki Harrison (Rochester, Minn.) finished with two goals.
The Knights were the first team on the board with a goal from junior Ashley Lahti (Turtle Lake, Wis.) just over a minute into the game. The Spartans then took the 5-1 lead heading into halftime.
The Orange and Black stormed back in the second frame as they scored three straight goals, which included the first goal just 15 seconds into the stanza and the second one just over a minute later.
Aurora built a six-goal margin in the second half, but Wartburg answered with four straight goals at the end of the game and sliced the margin to two with its goal with 1:19 remaining.
The Knights return to the field next Saturday on the road against Carroll.
