WAVERLY, Iowa-- Three players from the No. 10/11 Wartburg women's basketball team (1-0 overall) finished in double digits in the season opener Tuesday night. Junior Kristie Sommer (Marion) finished with 18 points as she had six three-pointers, classmate Miranda Murphy (Alleman) had her first double-double of the year with 14 points and 12 rebounds and twin sister Megan Murphy rounded out the leading scorers with 12 points. Miranda had a career-high in rebounds while Megan had a career-best in field goals and three-point field goals.
Sommer's six treys were two shy of the single-game school record which she set at Dubuque last season on Jan. 6.Â

The Knights led 14-9 after the first quarter and took the 36-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Orange and Black led by as many as 27 points in the fourth quarter. As a team defensively, Wartburg held the Rams to just .240 from beyond the arc.
The Knights return to the court Saturday when they host Edgewood at 6:30 p.m.
