No. 10/11 Wartburg Hosts Edgewood

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 10/11 Wartburg women's basketball team (1-0 overall) hosts Edgewood College (0-1) Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and holds the all-time series lead at 2-0.
The programs met last season in Madison, Wis., and the Knights tied the single-game school record with 10 blocked shots in the contest.

There will be a special presentation for last season's appearance in the Final Four at halftime of the Buzz Levick tournament championship game which tips off at 4 p.m.

Wartburg
Three players finished in double digits in the 68-50 season opener victory against Cornell on Tuesday. Junior Kristie Sommer (Marion) finished with 18 points, as she had six three-pointers, classmate Miranda Murphy (Alleman) had her first double-double of the year with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and twin sister Megan Murphy rounded out the leading scorers with 12 points.

Miranda had a career-high in rebounds, while Megan had a career-best in field goals and three-point field goals.

Sommer's six treys were two shy of the single-game school record, which she set at Dubuque last season on Jan. 6. 

Sophomore Adrienne Boettger (Cedar Falls) had a career-best 11 rebounds on the night.

Edgewood
The Eagles opened the season Tuesday against No. 14 UW-Oshkosh, so this will be their second-straight game against a ranked opponent.

Cali Twet leads the team with 15.0 PPG, and Allison Gordon is the leading rebounder with 7.0 rebounds/game.
