WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 8/8 Wartburg women's basketball team moved to 8-0 overall to stay undefeated in its 61-28 win over Viterbo (2-11) Saturday.
The Knights started the game on a 23-0 run over the first 8:30 and led 23-3 at the end of the first quarter. The Orange and Black continued to maintain their margin and led 38-10 at halftime.
Freshman Emma Gerdes (Cedar Falls) and junior Megan Murphy (Alleman) co-led the team with seven points each. Murphy hit two threes in the first half and added a free throw in the first half alone.
Juniors Morgan Neuendorf (Shell Rock), Aryn Jones (Marion), Kristie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) and freshmen Katie Lindeman (Grundy Center) and Alicia Kimball (Dunkerton) all followed with six points.
Jones and classmate Katie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) each pulled in a team-best five rebounds.
As a team, Wartburg held the advantage in all three team shooting percentage category and held the V-Hawks to .000 from three-point land.
The Knights are off from competition this week due to finals, but return to the court against Southern Maine at the Cruizin' Classic Monday, Dec. 19 at 4:30 p.m. eastern.
