Wartburg Will Face Wisconsin Lutheran in NCAA Tournament

WAVERLY, Iowa—The Wartburg women's basketball team (19-7 overall) will play Wisconsin Lutheran (20-7) Friday, March 4 at 4:30 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Oshkosh, Wis.



The Knights received an at-large bid and will make their tenth overall appearance and first since 2002 in the NCAA Tournament.

The Warriors received an automatic bid as they won the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament for the sixth-straight year and enter the weekend on a three-game winning streak.

The Orange and Black hold the all-time series lead at 2-0 against Wisconsin Lutheran, but the last meeting was in November of 2007.

UW-Oshkosh (22-5) will serve as host and will face UW-Superior (24-3) in the other first round game Friday. The Titans won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament for the third-straight year and the Yellow Jackets were the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Champions and will make the inaugural NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.

Friday's winners will advance to the second round game Saturday at 7 p.m.

-Senior Kailey Kladivo (Traer) has 1,190 career points which ranks ninth on our program leader list
-Sophomore Katie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) has 117 assists this season and would need five more to tie the single season school record.

Kladivo leads the team with 14.3 PPG and Ka. Sommer follows with 11.8. Kladivo is also the team's leading rebounder with 7.9 rebounds/game.

Wisconsin Lutheran
Jen Dowden leads her team with 15.1 PPG. Caitlin Knueppel follows with 11.1 and Taylor Bahr rounds out the leading scorers with 10.8 PPG. Bahr is also the team's leading rebounder with 7.6/game.

Individually, three Knights are ranked in the top 100 in seven statistical categories. Senior Bobbie Burrows (Bondurant) is ranked 50th in three-point field goals made (64), 59th in three-point field goals per game (2.46), 72nd in three-point field goals attempted (177) and 78th in three-point field-goal percentage (36.2). Classmate Kailey Kladivo (Traer) is ranked 72nd in field-goal percentage (49.3).  Sophomore Katie Sommer is ranked 58th in assists (117) and 61st in assists per game (4.5).
