OSHKOSH, Wis.-- The Wartburg women's basketball team (20-7 overall) advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with its 65-49 win over Wisconsin Lutheran (20-8) Friday. Sophomore Miranda Murphy (Alleman) scored a career-high 18 points in the contest to lead all scorers.

Senior Kailey Kladivo (Traer) and sophomore Katie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) joined her in double digits with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Kladivo now has 1,204 career points which ranks ninth-best in program history. Sommer now needs four assists to tie the single season school record.



The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Warriors and the Knights remain undefeated (3-0) in the all-time series against them.

Wartburg led 31-25 at halftime as Murphy scored half of her points in the half. Sophomore Morgan Neuendorf (Shell Rock) compiled a 5-0 run by herself in the last 1:07 of the frame. The Knights opened the third quarter on a 6-0 run and led by as many as 14 points in the session.

As a team, the Orange and Black held the advantages in all three shooting percentage categories and held Wisconsin Lutheran to a team field goal percentage of .295 and only .250 from three-point land.

This is Wartburg's tenth overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament and marks the first time since 2001 is has advanced past the first round. The Knights will face the winner of #11/16 UW-Oshkosh and UW-Superior Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Orange and Black reached the 20-win mark for the first time since the 2010-11 season and 11th time in program history.
