DUBUQUE, Iowa-- Four Knights finished in double digits in No. 4/14 Wartburg's 86-58 win over Dubuque Wednesday. Senior Kristie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) led the team with 13 points. Classmate Miranda Murphy (Alleman) had 12, junior Adrienne Boettger (Cedar Falls) had a career-best 11 and sophomore Emma Gerdes (Cedar Falls) had 10.
With the win, the Orange and Black move to 4-0 overall and start the conference schedule 1-0. They have now also won the last seven-straight in the series.
The score in the first quarter was tied four times, which included at 13 all, with 3:09 left in the frame. Wartburg ended the quarter on a 7-3 run to take the lead for good.
The Knights continued to add to their margin in the second half, which included a double-digit margin the entire fourth quarter.
Freshman Kaitlyn Volesky (Mount Vernon) had a career-best nine rebounds to lead the team.
Defensively, the Orange and Black held the Spartans to 27.8% from beyond the three-point line. Wartburg also owned the advantage in rebounds, 43-34, including 13-10 on the offensive glass.
The Knights conclude their road swing Saturday at UW-Platteville at 3 p.m.
