No. 2/2 Wartburg to Face No. 5/5 Bowdoin in Final Four

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 2/2 Wartburg women's basketball team (31-0 overall) will face No. 5/5 Bowdoin (28-2) in the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament Friday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. No. 1/1 Amherst and No. 3/3 Thomas More will play in the other Final Four game at 5 p.m.

This is the second appearance in three seasons for the Knights in the National Semifinal.
 
Friday's winners will advance to the National Championship game Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

The Series
This marks the inaugural meeting between the programs.

Wartburg
The Knights received the automatic bid as they won the Iowa Conference Tournament Championship and will make their 12th overall appearance and third-straight in the NCAA
Tournament.

The Orange and Black are one of four teams in all NCAA divisions that remain undefeated.

Senior Katie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) is the leading scorer for the Knights with 14.8 PPG. She also has a team-high 182 assists, and 73 steals. Classmates Miranda Murphy (Alleman) and Morgan Neuendorf (Plainfield) follow with 11.5 and 11.4 PPG, respectively. Murphy leads the team with 5.5 rebounds/game.

Katie, twin sister Kristie, Murphy and Neuendorf all joined the 1,000 career points club this season. This set a new program record for "new members" in a single season, as the old mark was two.

Single Season Leader List Watch
Katie is sixth in free throws (147) and broke her own single season record in assists as she has 182 to to date. She has set the mark in each of her last three seasons.

Jones is tied for third in blocked shots (41).

Career Leader List Watch
Katie is sixth with 1,428 points, the all-time career leader with 532 assists, third with 189 three-point field goals, and third with 454 free throws.

Twin sister Kristie is the program's career leader in three-point field goals at 243. She is also 12th with 1,091 points.

The Sommer twins became the program's leader in games played (117).

Miranda Murphy is 11th with 1,109 points and Neuendorf is 13th 1,021 points.

Senior Aryn Jones (Marion) ranks second with 117 blocked shots.

The Knights rank 1st in won-lost percentage (100.0), 1st in free throws made (499), 3rd in personal fouls per game (12.2), 4th in assists (548), 4th in final points (2,399), 4th in three-point field goals made (262), 7th in three-point field goal attempts (729), 8th in free throw attempts (671), 9th in scoring margin (20.8), 11th in three-point field goals per game (8.5), 11th in field-goal percentage (45.2), 14th in scoring offense (77.4), 17th in assists per game (17.7), 18th in assist turnover ratio (1.16), 20th in three-point field-goal percentage (35.9), 21st in rebounds (1,263), 22nd in free-throw percentage (74.4), 35th in defensive rebounds per game (30), 48th in rebound margin (6.8), 55th in fewest fouls (378), 80th in turnovers per game (15.3), 84th in scoring defense (56.6), 91st in turnover margin (2.87), and 93rd in final opponent points (1,755).
 
Individually, two Knights rank in the top 100 of eleven statistical categories: Katie Sommer  ranks 2nd in assists (182), 6th in minutes played (1016:00), 10th in free throws made (147), 11th in assists per game (5.9), 16th in free throw attempts (188), 35th in three-point field-goal percentage (41.0), 66th in three-point field goals made (64), 68th in assist turnover ratio (1.69), 69th in steals (73), and 70th in final points (459); and Kristie Sommer ranks 59th in three-point field goals attempted (191) and 76th in three-point field goals made (63).

Wartburg College Student Bus
There are 40 seats available for Wartburg students on a bus. Click here to sign up for the free ride to and from the game(s).
The bus will leave from the W circle drive at 11:45 a.m. Friday, and return following the game. With a win, the bus will leave at 2:45 p.m. Saturday and return following the game.
 
Friday Pep Rally
Pep Rally for Wartburg fans will take place Friday, March 16 from 3-4:30 p.m. at the Mayo Civic Center Ballroom 2. There will be a program at 4:15 p.m. Wartburg cheerleaders and Sir Victor will be there.

Bowdoin
The Polar Bears received an at-large bid as they fell to No. 6/8 Tufts in their conference tournament. Bowdoin was able to avenge that loss in Saturday's Elite Eight game, as it defeated the Jumbos 66-48.

Abby Kelly leads the team with 11.6 PPG and Kate Kerrigan joins her in double figures at 10.7. Kerrigan is the leading rebounder with 6.8/game.

Bowdoin is 31-15 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. The Polar Bears are making their 17th appearance in the last 18 years in the Tournament, as they did not qualify last season.

This is the second time Bowdoin has advanced to the Final Four in program history.
