SALEM, Ore.-- The Wartburg women's lacrosse team opened its season in winning fashion in the 9-8 victory over Willamette Tuesday night to open its Spring Break trip. The Knights were able to hold off a late rally by the Bearcats, who whittled the margin to one with 1:42 left in the game.

Sophomore Bri Greiskalns (Oakdale, Minn.) and junior Alex Pollock (Chaska, Minn.) each had three goals on the night. Senior Ashlyn Jelinek (Stillwater, Minn.) tallied two goals to round out the team leaders.

Jelinek moved into second on the career leader list in goals (64), and continues to extend her margin as the career leader in free position goals (15) and draw controls (92).

Junior Laura Sinkovitz (York, Pa.) earned the win in goal and is tied for the career record in goalie wins (12).
