WAVERLY - The Wartburg men's track & field team wrapped up its indoor home opening meet Saturday at Hoover Field House, hosting its annual Chelsey M. Henkenius Open. The Knights took second with 157 points ahead of Hawkeye C.C. and Upper Iowa, finishing behind Grand View's 187 point total.
Junior sprinter
Dallas Wright led the Orange & Black with a pair of top finishes. Wright recorded a personal best in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.28, which now stands as fourth best on the top 10 list. In addition, Wright took first in the 60-meter hurdles and set a career-best time of 8.27, now third best in program history.
Wartburg earned top finishes in the 1,000 and 3,000-meter runs. In the 1K,
Wyatt Schmidt crossed the finish line first at 2:36.65 while
Jacob VanderWilt trailed for a runner-up time of 2:50.58.
In the 3K,
Alec Ille's time of 8:32.45 was good for first place.
Dalton Martin followed at 8:37.7 while
Caleb Appleton and
Joe Freiburger both ran 8:40.
Devante Pearson (1.96m) and
Mychael Holliday (4.06m) led the jumps with top marks in the high jump and pole vault, respectively.
The Knights claimed third and fourth place finishes in the mile from
Frosty Lorimer and
Sam Madson along with its A and C teams in the 4x400-meter relay.

Next weekend, Wartburg is set for a pair of meets, slated to participate in the Jack Jennett Invite at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls on Friday, Jan. 24, followed by a meet in Davenport on Saturday, Jan. 25 at St. Ambrose.
