WAVERLY - The Wartburg women's track & field team hosted its annual Chelsey M. Henkenius Open Saturday inside Hoover Field House for its 2020 indoor home opener, taking first ahead of Grandview, Upper Iowa, and Hawkeye C.C. with 271 points.
The Knights captured nine first place finishes, headlined by a
Breya Christopher high jump mark of 1.70 meters, which ties a Wartburg indoor record previously set by former All-American Kailey Kladivo in 2016.
Wartburg's A & B 4x400 meter relay teams turned in a strong race, finishing first and second, respectively, with times of 3:58.29 and 4:13.11.
The Orange & Black distance crew claimed top finishes in the mile, 1K & 3K.
Aubrie Fisher won the one-mile race with a time of 5:19.45,
Erica Rittgers won the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:00.98, and
Carina Collet finished nearly 15 seconds ahead of the next closest competitor in the 3,000-meter run at 10:21.41.
In the 600-meter run, Wartburg finished first through third, led by
Carson McSorley's time of 1:38.48.
Jaderial Staebler and
Annie Mast trailed within a span of six seconds.
Maggi Bjustrom led Knights' sprinters with a top finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.21.
In the jumps, Wartburg earned first place marks in the pole vault and the triple jump.
Anna Achter's 2.92-meter pole vault mark was good for first place, while
Cherisse Ward took home the triple jump crown at 10.45m.

Next weekend, Wartburg is set for a pair of meets, slated to participate in the Jack Jennett Invite at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls on Friday, Jan. 24, followed by a meet in Davenport on Saturday, Jan. 25 at St. Ambrose.
