No. 7 Women's Hoops Opens 2020 Hosting Dubuque

WAVERLY - The No.7-ranked Wartburg women's basketball team opens the 2020 calendar year this Saturday, Jan. 4 at 2 p.m., hosting American Rivers Conference opponent University of Dubuque.

Matchup Notes
  • Last season the Knights won both matchups against the Spartans
  • Wartburg hosted Dubuque on Jan. 19 and took a 104-64 victory and set the school record with 31 assists
  • Dubuque hosted Wartburg on Feb. 16 with the Orange and Black winning 88-59
  • The Spartans last won a game against the Knights during the 2014-15 season where Dubuque took an 82-52 win
Wartburg
  • The Knights rank first in NCAA Division III in field goal percentage (50.1%) and assists (227)
  • Wartburg ranks among the top 10 in the nation in total points (980), free-throw percentage (77.8%), assists per game (18.9), and three-point field goals made (117)
  • The Knights' 58.7 points against per game and 23-point scoring margin leads the A-R-C
  • Wartburg is riding a nine-game winning streak and is undefeated (5-0) at Levick Arena
  • Emma Gerdes ranks second in the conference and 10th nationwide with 63 assists

  • After opening 2019-20 on a three-game win streak, the Spartans have dropped four straight to own a 4-7 overall record

  • Sophomore forward Miah Smith leads the A-R-C with 8.3 rebounds per game and fourth in blocks with 14
Last Time Out
Wartburg hosted its annual holiday tournament Dec. 29-30, winning the titile for the third consecutive season. The Knights defeated No. 14/24 Baldwin-Wallace and No. 11 Wisconsin-La Crosse while Tori Hazard and Emma Gerdes earned All-Tournament Team recognition, as well as Gerdes named MVP.
