WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Wartburg men's & women's track and field teams competed at the Midwest Elite Invite on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday, Feb. 15. The women took third of eight teams, while the men took fifth of nine teams.
The Knights' women tallied 100 points, led by a school record indoor high jump of 5'7.25'' from freshman
Breya Christopher. The mark bests Kailey Kladivo's program record high jump of 5'7'' set in 2016.
Wartburg totaled 65 points in running events, headlined by a first place finish in the 800-meter run from
Erica Rittgers with a time of 2:17.20.
In addition,
Alanna Muhammad,
Jackie Ganshirt, Aubrie Fisher, and the 4x400-meter relay team turned in runner-up finishes.
Muhammad took fifth in the 60-meter dash and second in the 200 with a time of 26.25. Ganshirt had a 59.67 second place time in the 400, Fisher took second in the mile with a time of 5:12.23, and the 4x400m relay squad of Ganshirt,
Carson McSorley,
Jaderial Staebler, and Rittgers took second with a time of 3:56.86.
The men recorded 56.5 points, highlighted by a school record indoor 200-meter dash time of 22.05 from
Dallas Wright.
30 points for the Orange & Black came from third place finishes from
Wyatt Schmidt,
Matt Heinzman,
Alec Ille,
Joe Freiburger, and Wright.
Schmidt took third in the 800-meter run (1:56.15), Heinzman in the one mile run (4:23.17), Ille in the 3,000-meter run (8:40.29), Freiburger in the 5,000-meter run (14:40.19), and Wright with a 8.26 time in the 60-meter hurdles.
Up next, the Knights return to Hoover Field House next Saturday, Feb. 22 to host the Wartburg Indoor Invite.
