Wartburg to Host NCAA Women's Basketball First/Second Rounds

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Committee announced the field of 64 teams for the 2020 championship on Monday, March 2, with Wartburg selected as one of 16 first/second-round host sites. The Knights will host Wheaton College, Whitman College, and Monmouth College March 6-7. 

Wartburg was awarded an automatic berth to the tournament with an American Rivers Conference Tournament title, defeating Loras College on Saturday, Feb. 29, earning a fifth-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. 

SCHEDULE
Whitman and Wheaton will open the first round on Friday at 5:30 p.m., followed by Wartburg versus Monmouth at 8 p.m.

The winners will advance to the second round with a 7 p.m. start time on Saturday. 
  • Friday, March 6, 5:30 p.m. — Wheaton vs. No. 11 Whitman
  • Friday, March 6, 8 p.m. — No. 5 Wartburg vs. Monmouth
  • Saturday, March 7, 7 p.m. — Winner of Wheaton/Whitman vs. Winner of Wartburg/Monmouth

*Ticket sales at Levick Arena will open 1.5 hours prior to the start of the first game for spectators. Pre-sale tickets will NOT be available. 

Forty-three conferences have been awarded automatic qualification for the 2020 championship. There is one berth reserved for Pool B and the final 20 berths are reserved for Pool C, which includes institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that are not the conference champion and any remaining Pool B teams. Sixteen first/second-round sites will be conducted March 6-7. Second-round winners will advance to one of four sectional sites March 13-14.

Winners of the four sectional sites will advance to the national semifinals and final March 20-21. All games, except the semifinals/final, will be played on the campuses of competing institutions. The semifinals/final will be conducted at Capital Center Performance Arena on the campus of Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, hosted by Capital University and the Greater Columbus Sports Commission.
