Knights Best Loras and UNI During Friday Night Lights Meet

WAVERLY, Iowa - The No. 1 ranked Wartburg College Track & Field teams swept Loras College and the University of Northern Iowa as hosts of the Wartburg Friday Night Lights Meet on Friday, Jan. 29, 2021 inside Hoover Fieldhouse.

The men led the field with 212 points, followed by 189.5 from Loras and 164.5 from UNI. The Wartburg women tallied 208 points, while UNI collected 192.5 and 161.5 from Loras.

Men
On the men's side, Wartburg's sprinters were paced by Deyton Love and Derrick Smith. Love set a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.18 and was just off from Dallas Wright's indoor school record of 8.16 set just a couple weeks back.

Smith also cracked Wartburg's indoor Top 10 lists in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. He took second in both with a time of 7.02 in the 60 and 22.29 in the 200.

The Knights' distance runners were paced by a first place and top 10 list mile time from Dalton Martin at 4:17.81. Joe Freiburger won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:31.79 and was followed by Christopher Collet at 8:35.63, which were both top 10 indoor times.

Max Goodhue led the Wartburg jumpers, collecting 18 points with a top triple jump of 42-1.25 and a long jump of 21-1.5, which was a runner-up finish.

Women
In just her second collegiate meet, freshman jumper Shaniah Johnson won both the long jump (17-0.5) and triple jump (36-8.5).

Taylan Olson and Moriah Morter both set personal bests, Olson with a first place 400-meter run time of 1:00.25. In the mile, Morter took second with a time of 5:16.04.

After cracking the top 10 list in the 3K at the 2021 Henkenius Triangular, Aubrie Fisher set another top 10 time that was just a second shy of her personal best at 10:04.19, taking second place.

Up next, Wartburg hosts Central College and Coe College during its 'Indoor Select' American Rivers Conference Triangular, Saturday, Feb. 6.
