ALLENDALE, Mich.—Track and Field season got underway and several members of the Wartburg Knights Track and Field squad competed at the Grand Valley State Holiday Open on Dec. 3.
Joe Freiburger set a new school record in the 5000-meter race, clocking in at fourteen minutes, eighteen seconds, and eighty-six hundredths of a second (14:18.86). The previous record was set in 2005 at 14:20.18.
Morgan Shirley-Fairbairn competed in the 5000-metere race, timing in at 14:53.68.
In the women's 5000-meter race,
Riley Mayer led the Knights with a time of 17:15.28 in the first heat of the race.
Aubrie Fisher was nearly a second behind her teammate, clocking in at 17:16.22.
Alexis Brown finished with a time of 18:01.65, while
Natalie Paulson rounded out the Knights in the 5000-meter race with a time of 18:04.04.
The Orange & Black competed in the men's 3000-meter race as
Alec Ille and
Matt Heinzman represented the Knights. Ille clocked in with a time of 8:26.64, while Heinzman clocked in at 8:30.74.
Wyatt Schmidt competed for the Knights in the 800-meter run, timing in at 1:52.93.
Ellie Meyer clocked in at 10:34.86 in the women's 3000-meter run, while
Frosty Lorimer timed in at 4:19.21 in the men's 1-mile run.
