DECORAH, Iowa - The Wartburg College men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up its indoor regular season competition Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Luther College Triangular, competing against the Norse and the University of Dubuque.
The No. 3-ranked women took first ahead of Dubuque and Luther with 114 points, while the top-ranked men took second behind Dubuque with 104 team points.
Men
On the men's side, the Knights compiled four first place finishes.
Derrick Smith and
Dallas Wright led the Wartburg sprinters, with Smith taking first with a 6.53 55-meter dash time and Wright winning the 200-meter dash at 22.49, which cracks the Wartburg indoor Top-10 list.
Sam Madson won the 800-meter run with a personal best time of 1:56.70. Fellow distance runner
Jacob Green won the 3,000-meter race at 8:48.12.
Wartburg's distance medley relay squad of
Matt Heinzman,
Wyatt Schmidt,
Dalton Martin, and
Christopher Collet won with a time of 10:06.05, which ranks first in the nation and cracks Wartburg's indoor top 10 list.
Women
The Wartburg women totaled six first place finishes as a team.
Alanna Muhammad and
Taylan Olson paced the sprinters with top finishes in the 55m (7.49) and 400m (1:00.39), respectively.Â
Nicki Schneider won the pole vault with a best leap of 10-10, while
Dani Johnson won the weight throw with a season best have of 53-7.75.
The Knights also won both the 4x400-meter and distance medley relays.

Wartburg next prepares to compete in the 2021 American Rivers Conference Indoor Championships, hosted by the Knights March 6-7 at Hoover Fieldhouse. The women will compete on Saturday, and the men on Sunday.
