ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Wartburg men's and women's track & field teams swept the Augustana College Meet of Champions April 16-17 at Knowlton Outdoor Athletic Complex.
The No. 6-ranked Wartburg men took first of eight teams with 275 points while the No. 22 ranked women tallied 214 points for a top finish ahead of seven teams.
Men
The Wartburg men opened competition on Friday with the 10,000-meter run, led by
Joe Freiburger's runner-up time of 29:56.99. Freiburger previously broke the Wartburg outdoor 10K record with a time of 29:36.50 at the Loras Invite on April 1.
On Saturday, the Knights collected five top finishes, led the the distance and sprinting crew.
Christopher Collet won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:21.83, a Wartburg top 10 mark.
Matt Heinzman followed with a Wartburg top-five time, winning the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:29.07.
The men's 4x100-meter relay team of
Dallas Wright,
Riley Nolan,
Randy Williams, and
Derrick Smith continued its strong outdoor season, taking first with an impressive time of 41.15, the second best time in Division III and the second fastest time in Wartburg outdoor history.
Wright and
Deyton Love finished first and second in the 110-meter hurdles, nearly finishing simultaneously with a tiebreaker finish of 14.69. Wright beat Love by just a thousandth of a second. Additionally,
Derrick Smith won the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 48.99.
Dalton Martin and
Trent Allard were runners-up. Martin took second in the 800m run at 1:50.94 while Allard's high jump of 6-4.75 was second best. Martin was just a second behind Mike Jasa from Loras for the second best time in DIII.
Riley Nolan took third in the 200-meter dash at 22:14.
Randy Williams was just behind at 22.36.
Women
The Wartburg women earned a pair of first place finishes, with a team effort from its sprinters, jumpers, and distance runners.
Mikayla Sidney,
Brenna Jacobs,
Sailor Hinegardner, and
Taylan Olson took second in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 48.90, just a second behind Loras.
In the 4x400-meter relay, the team of Jacobs,
Carson McSorley, Olson, and
Rachel Nagel third place at 4:01.40.
Sailor Hinegardner won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.10.
Hailey Foxhoven also contritbuted with a time of 15.91 for third place.
For a third-straight outdoor meet,
Breya Christopher won the high jump. She tied the fourth-best Wartburg outdoor high jump in program history at 5-6.5.
Ellie Roquet and
Haley Beckert tied for third place at 4-10.5.
Daekota Knott and
Shaniah Johnson finished second and third in the triple jump, both with a best leap of 35 feet, 8 inches.
Aubrie Fisher led the Knights' distance runners, winning the 5,000-meter run with the fourth best time in Wartburg history at 16:57.93.
Carina Collet and
Natalie Paulson finished third and fourth, respectively.
Additionally,
Taylan Olson took third place in the 400-meter dash at 58.36.
