WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg College men's and women's track & field teams hosted a dual meet versus Luther College on Thursday, May 6 at Walston-Hoover Stadium, sweeping the Norse.
The meet served as a final tune up as Wartburg next prepares for the 2021 American Rivers Conference Outdoor Championships, set to take place at the University of Dubuque May 13-15.
With 429 points, top-ranked men surpassed Luther's 160 point total, while the No. 9-ranked Wartburg women tallied 440 compared to the Norse' 181.
The men were led by its sprinters and mid-distance runners.
Dallas Wright set a Wartburg top-five time in the 110-meter high hurdles at 14.58 and earned the third-best all-time finish in the 200-meter dash at 21.61.
Derrick Smith wasn't far behind in the 200 with a time of 21.80, tied for fifth all-time at Wartburg.
In the 100-meter dash, Smith finished first with a time of 10.77, the second-fastest time in Wartburg outdoor history.
Randy Williams trailed at 10.79.
The 800-meter run was led by
Wyatt Schmidt and
Christopher Collet, each finishing in Wartburg's top-10 with times of 1:52.97 and 1:53.02, respectively.
The women of 16 of 18 events.
Isabelle Albers' top pole vault at nine feet, nine inches broke into Wartburg's outdoor top-eight.
Dani Johnson also had a Wartburg top-10 hammer throw at 154-7. She previously set the second-best all-time hammer throw last Friday at 164-6.
