Knights Football Looks to Defend Share of Conference Title

WAVERLY, Iowa—Looking to defend their share of the American Rivers Conference title from 2019, the Wartburg College Knights are slated to open A-R-C action on Sept. 25.

The Kohawks of Coe visit Walston-Hoover Stadium for a 1 p.m. kickoff against the Knights.

  • The Orange & Black cruised to a 44-3 home opening victory over Monmouth on Sept. 4. The Orange & Black were led behind Jace Moore's 8-of-12 passing attempts. Moore recorded three touchdowns in the Knights victory. Nile McLaughlin joined Moore in the quarterback position, with 15 completions on 27 attempts.
  • Against Gustavus, the Knights had 19 first downs, with 13 passing first downs. The Knights recorded 324 offensive yards, with the passing game accounting for 283 yards. The Knights defense recorded two sacks, totaling 17 yards in the contest.
  • In rushing yards, Hunter Clasen and Bennett Goettsch lead the Knights. Drake George, Darius Whaley, and JoJo McNair lead the Knights in receiving yards as Moore and McLaughlin take over in the passing game. 
 
Coe Game Notes
  • Coe's Evan Ellis was named A-R-C Special Teams Player of the Week for the Week of Sept. 20. Ellis completed six punts, totaling 284 yards against Simpson. Three of the punts landed inside the 20-yard line. Ellis averaged 47.3 yards per punt.
  • Alphonso Soko leads the Kohawks in rushing yards, with 503 on the season to date. Soko is averaging 167.67 yards/game, with six touchdowns recorded.
