Knights Track & Field Sees Success at Jennett and Wieczorek Invites

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa/IOWA CITY, IA—The Wartburg College Knights track and field squad continued to see success as they competed at the Jack Jennett Invite and Larry Wieczorek Invite.

At the Wieczorek Invite, Joe Freiburger competed in the 3K-premier and ran a new school record (8:19.33). Aubrie Fisher took home third in the 3K-premier, clocking in at 9:47.33.

At the Wieczorek Invite, Christopher Collet reset the school and conference record in the mile. Collet timed in at 4:06.73 for a third-place finish.

Women's Recap-Jack Jennett

The Knights took first in the sprinting events as Mikala Sidney took first in the 60 dash with a time of 7.93. In the hurdles, Aricka Lambson (9.38) and Sailor Hinegardner (9.39) took the top two spot.

In the 200-meter run, the Knights took three of the top five spots. Jackie Ganshirt led the way, timing in at 26.07. Brenna Jacobs clocked in at 26.42, while Sidney rounded out the Knights in fifth (26.74)

Carson McSorley kept the first-place finishes rolling for the Knights, claiming the top spot in the 600-meter with a time of 1.37.43. Annie Mast clocked in at 1:43.69 for third place while Erin Phelan landed in fourth (1:45.78).

Ellie Meyer captured top honors in the 800-meter, with a time of 2:24.15. Jane Pinkowski landed in fourth place with a time of 2:30.90, while Brielle Ruch rounded the Knights out with a time of 2:34.05.  

In the 1-mile race, Caroline Collet and Liz Ashing landed in the top-10 for the Orange & Black. Collet clocked in at 5:50.70 and Ashing was seconds behind (5:54.15). Brandi Antonio took third place in the 3K, clocking in at 12:10.06.

In the field events, Daekota Knott jumped into second place in the long jump (5.13m). Belle Albers took fifth in the pole vault (2.85m). Knott took the top spot in the triple jump, leading the Knights with a jump of 11.26. The Knights placed three athletes in the top-10 of the triple jump as Shaniah Johnson (11.18m for second), Emma Houdek (10.15m for fourth), and Albers (9.71m for sixth).

In throws, Lily Meester led the Knights in shot put (13.09m for third). Haley Beminio took sixth place (11.92m) as Emma Ammons landed inside the top-10 (11.23m). In the weight throw, Beminio led the way for the Orange & Black, taking fifth (13.62m). Caitlynn Smith took seventh (12.83m), while Emma True (12.19m) and Ammons (11.98m) landed inside the top-10.

Men's Recap- Jack Jennett

Dallas Wright took home top honors for the Orange & Black, running an 8.07 in the 60 hurdles. Deyton Love was seconds behind, taking runner-up honors with a time of 8.21. Dalton Closson (9.08) and Noah Bauereis (9.22) landed inside the top-8 for the Knights.

Riley Nolan ran a 22.72 in the 200-meter, while Ian Neyens clocked in at 23.03 for a top-5 finish.

In the 600-meter run, Wyatt Schmidt raced into first place with a time of 1:22.72. Carter Cruise landed in third (1:25.62) as Jacob VanderWilt grabbed fourth place 1:27.00.

Ali Ali led the Knights in the 800-meter, clocking in at 2:01.38. Jacob Keay grabbed eighth with a time of 2:06.92. Callum Brittain claimed a spot inside the top-10, timing in at 2:08.73.

In the distance races, Michael Goodenbour took first place in the mile with a time of 4:25.20. Jack Meyer captured 4:31.54 and Michael Schmitz grabbed ninth with a time of 4:38.06.

In the 3K, Andrew Ellison led the way with a time of 9:09.31. Gavin Roy (9:25.65), Roberto Munoz (9:32.32), and Griffin Steiniger (9:32.52) landed inside the top-10 for the Orange & Black.

The Knights relay squad of VanderWilt, Brittain, Luke Benson, and Cruise took fifth in the 4x400, timing in at 3:37.49.

Dalton Closson jumped into the top-10 in the high jump, recording a jump of 1.75m. In shot put, Mason Lobeck took seventh with a throw of 13.28m. Grady Robinson took home ninth place in the weight throw for the Orange & Black, throwing a 10.05m.

Next Meet

The Knights return home on Friday, January 28 for the Friday Night Lights meet. Action is slated to start at 3:30 p.m. inside Hoover Fieldhouse.
