Wright Breaks School Record and Beminio Enters Top-10 at Friday Night Lights

WAVERLY, Iowa— Dallas Wright broke the school record in the 200-meter dash by less than a second as Haley Beminio broke through the top-10 in the women's weight throw at the Friday Night Lights meet inside Hoover Fieldhouse.  

Jackie Ganshirt ran a top-10 time in the women's 200 sit at No. 8 in the Knights record book.
 
The Knights women's 4x400 relay of Lily Campbell, Ganshirt, Carson McSorley, and Brenna Jacobs holds the top-time in the nation heading into competition this weekend. The Knights posted a time of 3:54.47 in the event.
 
Men's Recap
 
Wright would take home top-honors in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 21.75. The previous record, set in 2021 by Derrick Smith, was 21.76. Wright would also take-home top honors in the 60-dash, tying the Northern Iowa runner at 6.91.
 
Zach Abbey led a trio of Knights finishing in the top-8 of the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 51.91.

With a time of 1:56.92, Wyatt Schmidt led all racers in the 800-meter run. Finishing 20 seconds ahead of fellow Knights, Joe Freiburger clocked in at 8:23.27 in the men's 3K.
 
Ali Ali claimed runner-up honors in the men's mile race with a time of 4:19.91. Deyton Love split a pair of Northern Iowa racers, taking home second in the men's 60-Hurdles (8.11).
 
Abbey, Love, Mohamed Temsah, and Wright combined for a time of 3:26.56 in the men's 4x400 relay.
 
Aizik Hodak grabbed a top-3 finish in the men's weight throw (14.74m). Dalton Closson led the Knights in the men's high jump (1.71m) while Keegan Rich led all competitors in the long jump (6.70m). With a throw of 13.56, Graeson Trevino led the Knights in the men's shot put.
 
Women's Recap
 
Beminio had a top-5 finish in the women's weight throw (15.45m) to lead the Knights and break into the top-10. 

Ganshirt grabbed runner-up honors in the women's 200-meter dash (25.72).

Lily Meester would lead the Knights in shot put (12.70m).
 
Shaniah Johnson led all competitors in the women's long jump (5.19m) as Breya Christopher would take the top spot in the women's high jump (1.67m).
 
The Knights 4x400 relay team would make big strides in the third leg of the relay to take home top honors in the event.
 
Taylan Olson timed in at 1:00.29 in the women's 400-meter dash as Campbell took the top spot in the women's 800-meter run (2:17.43).
 
Mikala Sidney was the lone Knights racer to advance to the 60-Hurdles finals, clocking in at 7.99.
 
With a time of 5:05.84, Aubrie Fisher took the second-place spot in the women's mile race to lead the Knights. Shaelyn Hostager led all racers in the women's 3K, clocking in at 10:39.41.
 
Sailor Hinegardner found a spot inside the top-3 of the women's 60-Hurdles finals with a time of 9.31.
 
National Rankings
 
On the national scene, the men are sitting at No. 3, their second-best opening mark (the Knights were ranked No. 1 in 2021). Christopher Collet, Freiburger, and Schmidt are in the top-5 in the mile, 5K, and 800.

On the women's national scene, as the Knights enter the 2022 season at No. 8. The Knights' Riley Mayer and Fisher are inside the top-5 in the 5K, while Christopher leads the nation at high jump.
