Lacrosse Continues Non-Conference Play This Weekend

WAVERLY, Iowa – Wartburg lacrosse continues non-conference play this weekend against Augustana College on Saturday, Mar. 12 at 1 p.m. in Rock Island, Ill. The previously postponed Clarke game has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Mar. 15 at 6 p.m. in Waverly.

Last Time Out
The Knights were defeated on the road in their last contest 22-7 by the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
 
After almost four minutes of scoreless play, UW-River Falls scored four goals in a three-minute span to make the score 4-0 early. Bri Greiskalns responded with the Knights first goal of the contest with 8:55 left in the first. The Falcons cushioned their lead with two more goals in the first period, but Greiskalns closed the quarter with two more goals of her own to cut the lead to 3-6.
 
UW-River Falls started the second with back-to-back free position goals from Emily Herdine. Greiskalns scored her fourth goal of the contest with 12:21 remaining in the second quarter to make the score 8-4. The Knights were held scoreless the rest of the period while the Falcons offense scored six more times, making the score 14-4 at the break.
 
Lindsay Langford started the scoring in the second half with her second goal of the season to bring the lead under 10. The Falcons again responded with a flurry of offense and closed the third quarter on a 5-0 run.
 
In the fourth, Greiskalns scored two more goals to bring the score to 19-7. She finished the game with six goals scored on seven total shots.
 
Season Leaders
The Orange & Black's offense is led by Greiskalns, who has started the season with 14 goals through four games. The junior leads the team in draw controls with 28 as well as leads in caused turnovers with seven recorded.
 
Langford has added two goals for the Knights from just four total shots.
 
Alyson Hasner has started all four games in goal and has recorded 38 saves. The freshman also leads the team in groundballs with 14.
 
Augustana
The Vikings enter the contest with an overall record of 0-2 and were recently defeated by Edgewood College on Wednesday, Mar. 9.
 
Cassidy Petrie leads Augustana in scoring with six goals scored for six total points and Margaret Cecilio has added five total points from two goals and a team-high three assists. Cecilio is also 2-2 on free position attempts this season.
 
Sawyer Graham has started both games in goal for the Vikings and has recorded 30 saves. Graham also leads the team in groundballs with 16.
 
Clarke
The Pride enter Tuesday's contest with a record of 0-1 but has a matchup with Culver-Stockton on Sunday prior to the matchup with Wartburg.
 
Alyssa Humphrey scored two goals in Augustana's 20-4 loss to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse to lead the offense.
 
Mars Beimert led the team with 10 groundballs and started in goal for the Pride. She recorded 12 saves in the loss.
 
Series History
Saturday will be the first matchup in school history between Augustana and Wartburg in lacrosse. 

Saturday's matchup will mark the third all-time meeting between Clarke University and Wartburg College. The Knights have won both prior matchups with a combined score of 30-11. The most recent meeting came during the 2018 season where Wartburg won 14-6 in Waverly.
