Last Time Out
Wartburg won its second straight game on Sunday, Mar. 20 against Marian University to move to 2-5 overall.
The Knights were on the attack early against Marian with goals from
Britta Solheim and
Ellie Johnson to put them up 2-0 just two minutes into the contest. The Orange & Black dominated the rest of the first quarter by scoring two more goals and allowing zero shots from Marian. The third goal was scored by Johnson and
Bri Greiskalns got her first goal of the game with 2:16 remaining in the period to make it 4-0.
Greiskalns scored another goal to start the second quarter, but the Sabres responded with their first goal after a free position attempt led to the score. After two more missed shots from Marian, Greiskalns found the net again, following a turnover, to make the score 6-1 Wartburg. The Sabres scored again with the Knights playing shorthanded defense, but Greiskalns answered with her third goal of the period.
The Knights led 7-2 heading into halftime.
Following missed attempts from Marian, the Orange & Black scored three minutes into the second half when Johnson scored her third goal of the game. Greiskalns scored again minuetes later to bring the score to 9-2. Madalyn Burke scored her first goal of the contest off an assist from Greiskalns and Solheim kept the run going with her second goal. After goals from each side,
Lindsay Langford closed the quarter with a goal to make it 13-3 after three.
Langford and Greiskalns both added a goal in the fourth to closeout the 15-5 win.
Weekly Honors
The Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference named Greiskalns the Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season on Monday, Mar. 21.
The junior led the Knights to a 2-0 week with wins over Clarke and Marian University. Greiskalns recorded 15 total points over the week from 11 goals scored and four assists. Her 11 goals this week came from 18 total shots.
Season Leaders
Greiskalns leads the Knights in goals with 29 and assists with five for a total of 34 points. She also leads in draw controls and groundballs with 43 and 24 respectively. Last season's MWLC Midfielder of the Year leads the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference in goals and total points through seven games. Her and Johnson come into this weekend's competition number one and two in most statistical categories.
Solheim has scored two goals in each of the Orange & Black's last two games. She has also added one assist and six groundballs. Langford has scored three goals in her last two games, including the game-winner against Clarke in overtime.
Alyson Hasner has started all seven games at goalkeeper during her freshman season and has recorded a MWLC-best 66 saves. Her save percentage of 40% is currently second best in the conference.
Series History
Both matchups this weekend will be the first meeting between the programs in school history.
Edgewood enters the contest with a 2-5 record and have lost its last two.
Trine is 4-2 overall heading into Sunday's matchup but lost its last time out with an overtime loss to Wooster College.
