Records Fall for Track & Field at NCAA Qualifier

WAVERLY, Iowa— Records fell for the Knights as the Wartburg College Knights hosted a last chance qualifier for the NCAA National Championships for Indoor Track & Field.
 
Records Broken
  • The Distance Medley relay squad of Ellie Meyer, Taylan Olson, Carson McSorley, and Aubrie Fisher raced around the track, timing in at 11:40.13 for a new school record. The previous record was set at 11:46.88.
  • Deyton Love broke the school record in the 60-hurdles, racing a 7.99. The previous record was set by Dallas Wright at 8.02 earlier this season.
  • Wright tied the school record in the 60-dash at 6.87.
Top Results-Women
  • Jackie Ganshirt took third in the women's 200-meter dash, timing in at 25.37.
  • Olson and Rachel Nagel took top-8 finishes in the 400-meter dash. Olson rounded the track at 59.16, while Nagel clocked in at 59.42.
  • Riley Mayer took runner-up honors in the women's 3000, clocking in at 9:58.98.
  • Caroline Collet competed in the women's 5000, timing in at 18:50.46.
  • Ganshirt, Brenna Jacobs, McSorley, and Lily Campbell took runner-up honors in the 4x400 relay. The Knights timed in at 3:51.62.
  • Daekota Knott competed in the long jump, jumping a 5.24m. Knott took runner-up honors in the triple jump at 11.63m.
  • Lily Meester competed in the shot put for the Knights (12.63m). 
Top Results-Men
  • Wright and Caden Miller-Baker competed in the 60-dash. Wright took third in the event, while Miller-Baker clocked in at 7.13.
  • Love took the top-spot in the men's 60-hurdles, resetting the school and facility record.
  • Riley Nolan took eighth in the 200-dash, timing in at 22.70.
  • Wyatt Schmidt took top-honors in the 800-meter run, timing in at 1:53.74.
  • In the 5000-meter run, Morgan Shirley-Fairbairn and Sam Schmitz took the third and fourth place spots. Shirley-Fairbairn clocked in at 14:49.37 as Schmitz timed in at 14:52.40.
  • The Knights men clocked in at 9:57.49 in the Distance Medley Relay as Frosty Lorimer, Jensen Clapp, Schmidt, and Christopher Collet teamed up.
  • The Knights 4x400 relay squad of Zach Abbey, Love, Ian Neyens, Wright took runner-up honors with a time of 3:17.17.
  • Keegan Rich competed in the long jump, taking fourth at 6.71m.
  • Dalton Closson took second in the heptathlon, scoring 4683 points. Closson took third in the 60-dash (7.27/ 789 pts), tied for second in the high jump (1.82m/ 644 points), fifth in the long jump (6.01m/ 589 points), and third in the shot put (11.33m/ 566 points), second in the 1000-meter run (2:52.80/ 737 points), second in the 60-hurdles for a PR (8.72 seconds/ 809 points), and third in the pole vault (3.75m/ 549 points).
 
The 2022 NCAA National Indoor Track & Field Championship is set for March 11-12 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
