WAVERLY, Iowa— Finishing in first and second places as a team, the Wartburg Knights Track & Field squad saw strong finishes across the board at the Wartburg Outdoor Invite.
 
With 196 points in 20 events, the Knights women's program finished first out of ten teams.
 
The men finished with 151 points in 10 events, taking second place.
 
Top Finishers
 

• Riley Mayer, Shaelyn Hostager, and Natalie Paulson went 1-2-3 in the women's 10K run. Mayer led all racers with a time of 36:02.86. Hostager ran a 36.08.41 and Paulson clocked in at 36:46.57.
• The 2021 defending national champion in the 3000-meter steeplechase, Aubrie Fisher raced to a time of 10:32.27 in the event.
• In the men's steeplechase, Christopher Collet led the Knights, timing in at 9:11.52.
• In the men's 4x400 relay, Sean Henson, Deyton Love, Ian Neyens, and Dallas Wright combined for a time of 3:22.04 for first place.
• Wright claimed the top-spot in the 400-meter dash, racing a 48.22 (two-seconds ahead of the runner-up).
• Matt Heinzman edged out Loras' Ryan Harvey, taking the top spot in the 1500 with a time of 3:53.28.
• In the women's vault, Belle Albers took first at 3.05m.
• Brenna Jacobs and Daekota Knott went 1-2 in the women's javelin. Jacobs led all competitors at 37.40m, while Knott recorded a mark of 36.33m.

• Carson McSorley took runner-up honors in the 800-meter run, timing in at 2:18.76.
• Macy Wilhelm ran a 1:01.13 in the 400-meter dash, taking second place honors.
• The Knights 4x400 relay squad of  McSorley, Jackie Ganshirt, Rachel Nagel, and Jacobs took runner-up honors with a time of 3:56.77.
• Shaniah Johnson (5.25m) led the Knights in the long jump, taking runner-up honors.
• Mikala Sidney placed inside the top-3 in the 100-dash, clocking in at 12.76.
• Ellie Meyer grabbed a top-3 finish in the steeplechase, clocking in at 11:17.43.
• Led by Knott (11.71m), three additional Knights placed inside the top-8 in the triple jump. Breya Christopher (11.26m), Johnson (11.02m), and Emma Houdek placed in the top-8.
• In the high jump, Hailey Foxhoven (1.45m) and Ryin Lehmann (1.45m) placed in the top-8 for the Knights.
• Sailor Hinegardner clocked in at 15.80 in the 100-meter Hurdles, finishing in the top-5.
• Lexi Brown placed inside the top-8 in the 1500-meter run, clocking in at 4:54.14.
• Lily Meester finished in third place in discus (38.15m) as Talbot Kinney added a top-8 finish for the Knights (36.95m). Meester led the Knights in the shot put (11.57m).
• In the hammer throw, Haley Beminio (41.84m) and Tara Jochumsen (39.96m) placed in the top-8 for the Orange & Black.
• In 4x100 relay, Sidney, Jacobs, Jada Gaskill, and Morgan Funke clocked in at 50.14 for a fourth-place finish.
• Akyma Bush ran a 28.15 in the 200-meter dash.
• Aricka Lambson clocked in at 1:11.34 in the 400-meter hurdles.

 
 
Men's Recap
 

• Morgan Shirley-Fairbairn led the Knights in the 10K, taking runner-up honors with a time of 30:17.81.
• Quinten Sommers led the Knights in the javelin, placing third at 45.34m.
• Keegan Rich grabbed a third-place finish in the long jump (6.78m). Rich raced in the 100-meter dash, timing in at 11.62
• Carson Collet placed inside the top-5 in the pole vault with a mark of 3.75m.
• Henson and Love claimed top-5 finishes in the 400-meter dash, with times of 51.35 and 51.36.
• In the 110 Hurdles, Kody Carlson raced a 16.81 for a fifth place finish.
• Will Krapfl clocked in at 58.00 in the 400-meter hurdles, for fourth place in the event. Carlson (1:02.49) and Jack Goedken (1:07.44) raced in the event.
• Frosty Lorimer finished in the top-8 in the 1500, timing in at 4:03.87.
• Jensen Clapp claimed a top-8 finish in the 800-meter run, timing in at 2:03.62.
• Jacob Kamara placed in the top-8 in the 200-meter dash, timing in at 23.40.
• Trent Allard recorded a mark of 1.85m in the high jump.
• Mason Lobeck (13.98m) and Graeson Trevino (13.87m) placed inside the top-5 in the shot put.
• Adam Teare and Trevino led the Knights in the discus, with marks of 38.87m and 38.76m.
• Leading the Knights in the hammer throw, Gage Cates and Teare led the Orange & Black with marks of 37.54m and 37.09m.

 
Additional Races
 
The Knights' Joe Freiburger competed at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic on March 31. Freiburger finished seventh overall in the men's 10K, with a time of 30:02.86.
 
National Rankings
 
In the first polls from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Poll, the Knights have received national rankings.
 
The Knights women's track & field squad are ranked No. 8 in the National Track & Field Rating Index (TFRI). In the Midwest Regional rankings, the Knights women sit at No. 3.
Sitting at No. 12 nationally, the Knights men's track & field squad is ranked No. 5 in the Midwest TFRI rankings.
