LA CROSSE, Wis.— With three top finishes on the men's side and one on the women's side, the No. 9 Wartburg Track and Field program finished action at the Phil Esten Challenge on April 23.
The Knights men took home fifth place in the team standings with nine top-3 finishes. The Knights women had seven top-3 finishes and would finish in fourth place in the team standings.
Men's Recap
- With a time of 9:02.87, Christopher Collet led all racers in the 3000-meter Steeplechase. Collet currently has the second fastest time in the nation in the event and enters the top-10.
- Going 1-2 in the 800-meter run, Wyatt Schmidt (1:52.16) and Dalton Martin (1:52.69) led the way for all racers. Schmidt's time places him inside the top-20 times in the nation in the event. Schmidt and Martin's times land them inside the Top-10 list at Wartburg.
- Matt Egts took top honors in the javelin throw, recording a mark of 52.78m.
- In the 4x400 relay, the Knights (Schmidt, Mohamed Temsah, Martin, and Dallas Wright) grabbed second place with a time of 3:17.59.
- Setting a new school record, Wright took home third-place in the 200-meter dash at 21.09.
- In the 1500-meter run, Matt Heinzman raced to a third-place finish (3:56.84), which was less than a second behind the race winner.
- The Wartburg relay squad of Sean Henson, Deyton Love, Wright, and Riley Nolan took third in the 4x100 relay with a time of 41.23. The squad ranks inside the top-10 fastest times in the nation and earns a spot in the top-10 list at Wartburg.
- Taking home third in the 5000, Sam Pinkowski clocked in at 15:56.47.
- Connor Lancial clocked in at 9:26.95 in the 3000-meter Steeplechase for a top-5 finish.
- Dalton Closson had a top-8 finish in the 110 hurdles, recording a time of 15:39.
- Will Krapfl ran a 57.64 in the 400-meter hurdles, nabbing a spot in the top-8.
- Nolan raced an 11.02 in the 100-meter dash to qualify for the finals in the event. Nolan grabbed a top-5 finish in the javelin at 49.97m.
- Trent Allard recorded a mark of 1.85m in the high jump, finishing in eighth-place. Allard competed for the Orange & Black in the triple jump (12.72m) for a top-15 finish.
- Keegan Rich earned a top-8 finish in the long jump, at 6.75m.
- Mason Lobeck recorded a mark of 14.65m in the shot put, grabbing eighth-place.
- Adam Teare competed for the Knights in the hammer throw (40.24m).
Women's Recap
- Finishing in first-place, Breya Christopher led all competitors in the high jump, recording a mark of 1.66 and landing in the top-10 list at Wartburg. Christopher took runner-up honors in the triple jump (12.12m) while Daekota Knott finished in third at 11.97m. Both Christopher and Knott's marks are among the top-15 highest marks in the nation in triple jump and earn spots inside the top-10 list at Wartburg.
- Taking home runner-up honors in the 4x400 relay, Carson McSorley, Jackie Ganshirt, Brenna Jacobs, and Addie Parker combined for a time of 3:54.78.
- Jacobs took runner-up honors in the javelin at 40.30m to lead the Knights, a top-15 mark in the nation, and ranks No. 3 in the Knights all-time list. Knott would finish in the top-8 with a throw of 33.36m.
- Earning a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, McSorley clocked in at 1:04.32 to lead the Knights.
- Ganshirt, Jacobs, Mikala Sidney, and Parker teamed up in the 4x100 relay for a time of 48.41 to take third-place.
- Ganshirt (24.96) and Jacobs (25.35). earned top-6 finishes in the 200-meter dash. Ganshirt's time is good for a top-20 time in the nation and ties Hannah Baker (2008) for a top-10 spot.
- Ellie Meyer grabbed a top-8 finish in the 800-meter run, timing in at 2:20.50. Erin Phelan grabbed a top-10 finish, roughly two seconds behind Meyer at 2:22.54.
- Haley Beminio finished in seventh in the hammer throw at 45.59m to lead the Orange & Black in the event. Beminio enters the Knights top-10 list with the mark.
- In the 100-meter hurdles, Sailor Hinegardner clocked in at 15.31 for a top-8 finish.
- Lexi Brown finished in the top-8 of the 1500-meter run for the Knights, clocking in at 4:50.74.
- Sidney qualified for the 100-meter dash finals with a time of 12.35, the sixth fastest preliminary time.
- Knott finished in the top-10 in the long jump, recording a mark of 5.36m.
- Bella Albers competed for the Knights in the pole vault, recording a mark of 2.93m and a spot in the all-time list.
- Emma Ammons led the Knights in the shot put, finishing in the top-20 at 11.85m.
Friday Recap
Anna Hertz led the Knights on the women's side, clocking in at 37:42.22.
Addy Carlson clocked in at 38:55.87 for a top-20 time.
Jacob Green finished in the top-10 on the men's side, racing a 30:50.41.
Drew Hoffman finished with a time of 31:10.52 as
Ian Barry (31:25.90) finished in the top-20.
The Knights return to action as they compete at the Drake Relays, April 28-30 in Des Moines, Iowa.
