Three Knights Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

WAVERLY, IA—A trio of Wartburg Knights Track and Field and Cross Country athletes earned First-Team Academic All-District as announced by CoSIDA.

Aubrie Fisher, a junior from Ackley, Iowa, set a new facility record at Loras, defended her title and claimed the first crown for the Knights at the conference Outdoor Championships, timing in at 10:41.70 in the 3000-meter Steeplechase. Fisher defended her title in the 1500-meter run to claim her second outdoor title of the weekend. In the indoor season, Fisher helped the Knights to the title in the Distance Medley Relay at the NCAA Indoor Championships and a top-15 finished in the 1500-meter run. At NCAA Cross Country Championships, Fisher finished in sixth and helped guide the Knights to a fourth-place finish overall. Fisher has a 3.95 GPA in Psychology and Sociology.
 
Joe Freiburger, a senior from Holy Cross Iowa, defended his title in the 10K and broke the conference record in the event by five seconds. Freiburger ran a 30:20.66 in the event, to lead all runners.  Freiburger took runner-up honors in the 5000-meter run, timing in at 14:58.03 at the conference championships. At Indoor National Championships, Freiburger competed in the 3000 and 5000-meter runs, earning All-American honors in the second. Freiburger defended his third straight individual title in cross country, clocking in at 25:04.3 for top honors and a new course record. Freiburger, the American Rivers Conference MVP, was named the Midwest Male Athlete of the Year by the USTFCCCA. Freiburger has a 3.60 GPA in Business Administration and Accounting.

Dallas Wright, a senior from Carlisle, Iowa, claimed a series of titles at Indoor and Outdoor Conference Championships. Wright claimed the 60 Hurdles, 200 and 400 dash at the Indoor Championships. Wright's time in the 200 broke the conference record and broke the facility record at the University of Dubuque in the 60 Hurdles. Wright claimed the 200 and 400-meter dashes at the Outdoor Championships. Wright broke the 400-dash record and tied the All-Time Conference record in the 200. Wright was named the MVP Track Performer for Outdoor and Indoor season and earned Midwest Regional Track Athlete for Indoor and Outdoor season from USTFCCCA. Wright has a 3.45 GPA in Business Administration and Accounting.
 
The 2021-22 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
 
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
