Waverly, Iowa - No. 8/16 Wartburg women's basketball (3-0) defeated the Cornell College Rams (0-4) 71-26 in its home opener on Wednesday, Nov. 15 inside Levick Arena. The Knights outscored Cornell 50-14 after the first quarter of play to secure its third win in a row to start the season.
- First Quarter
- Cornell scored five early points to lead 5-2, but a Britney Young three pointer knotted things up just under three minutes in
- Minutes later, a Sara Faber three pointer gave the Knights an 8-5 lead
- After back and forth scoring, a layup from Randi Wright brought the Rams to within 13-12 with two and a half minutes left in the quarter
- A Jaedon Murphy layup at the buzzer assisted by Faber gave the Knights a 21-12 lead at the end of the first quarter

- Murphy scored the first seven points of the second half that led to a 15-0 Knights run that gave them a 28-12 lead two minutes into the quarter
- A Lauren Woeste layup extended the Wartburg lead to 33-16 just over halfway through the quarter

- Young recorded back-to-back assists on layups from Lauren Donlea and Woeste in the opening minutes of the third
- A three-point basket from Grace Hennessy extended the Knights lead to 47-19 with five and a half minutes left in the quarter

- Murphy sliced through the defense for a layup that extended the Knights lead to 64-25 just under two minutes into the quarter
