Women's Basketball Ben Woods

No. 8/16 Women's Basketball Roll Past Cornell 71-26

Waverly, Iowa - No. 8/16 Wartburg women's basketball (3-0) defeated the Cornell College Rams (0-4) 71-26 in its home opener on Wednesday, Nov. 15 inside Levick Arena. The Knights outscored Cornell 50-14 after the first quarter of play to secure its third win in a row to start the season.
 
  • First Quarter
    • Cornell scored five early points to lead 5-2, but a Britney Young three pointer knotted things up just under three minutes in
    • Minutes later, a Sara Faber three pointer gave the Knights an 8-5 lead
    • After back and forth scoring, a layup from Randi Wright brought the Rams to within 13-12 with two and a half minutes left in the quarter
    • A Jaedon Murphy layup at the buzzer assisted by Faber gave the Knights a 21-12 lead at the end of the first quarter
  • Second Quarter
    • Murphy scored the first seven points of the second half that led to a 15-0 Knights run that gave them a 28-12 lead two minutes into the quarter
    • A Lauren Woeste layup extended the Wartburg lead to 33-16 just over halfway through the quarter
    • A three ball from Britney Young with 2 and a half minutes remaining was the last points scored in the half
    • Wartburg led 36-16 at halftime
  • Third Quarter
    • Young recorded back-to-back assists on layups from Lauren Donlea and Woeste in the opening minutes of the third
    • A three-point basket from Grace Hennessy extended the Knights lead to 47-19 with five and a half minutes left in the quarter
    • Faber recorded three pointer that gave the Knights a 53-23 lead with 3 minutes to go in the quarter
    • A Woeste layup at the horn gave the Knights a 60-25 lead at the end of the quarter
  • Fourth Quarter
    • Murphy sliced through the defense for a layup that extended the Knights lead to 64-25 just under two minutes into the quarter
    • A Hennessy and-one layup gave the Knights a 69-25 lead with 6 minutes to go in the quarter
    • Ava Trettin scored after an assist from Finley Fitzgerald with a minute left to give the Knights a 71-26 lead
